ARDESTO Household Appliance Energy Efficiency Classes: Changes to the System
EU technical regulations on energy labeling have come into force in Ukraine. What should users pay attention to? The new labeling helps users obtain more detailed product information and choose energy-efficient appliances more carefully, reducing household energy consumption and saving money.
Modern homes usually have many electrical “helpers” that make everyday life easier. They can be found in every part of the home – from the kitchen to the bathroom or bedroom. One of the main factors when choosing new devices is their energy consumption rating. This indicator, shown on the product label, helps quickly assess how economical a device will be to use and choose appliances that provide comfort without placing an additional burden on the budget. Changes to the energy efficiency labeling system adopted in the EU in 2021 are also being gradually introduced in Ukraine. This decision is driven by rapid technological development: most modern devices already have the highest ratings under the old scale (A+, A++, A+++), making it more difficult to distinguish their actual energy consumption.
The Essence of the New Classification
The main change to the labeling system is the return to a scale from A to G. Classification using “+” symbols has been abolished for certain product categories. This creates room for future innovations, as the highest A class initially remains almost empty or reserved for the most advanced technologies.
The innovation primarily applies to:
- washing machines;
- dishwashers;
- refrigeration and freezing equipment.
New energy efficiency labels have also been developed – they now include a QR code that allows users to access the official database and review the technical specifications of the equipment and its energy consumption level before purchase.
Transition Period and ARDESTO Labeling
The Ukrainian market is currently undergoing a transition period, so products with both old and new label formats are available for sale at the same time. It is important to understand that the technical specifications of the devices do not change, only the calculation method and visualization of the energy efficiency class have been updated.
